Businessman shot dead in presence of son in Delhi’s Amar Colony

A 45-year-old businessman was shot dead in the presence of his son in south-east Delhi’s Amar Colony on Friday night, the police said on Saturday. The police have registered a case and begun a probe.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-East) Chinmoy Biswal said that the victim has been identified as Fazlu Rehman alias Handi who lives in Govindpuri and hails from Uttar Pradesh’s Khurja. The victim used to run two shops of fruits and vegetables at Okhla Mandi.

A close friend of the victim, who did not wish to be named, said that around 10.45 p.m., he was returning from his sister’s house in Kalindi Kunj when the incident happened.

The friend said that the victim, his 6-year-old son and relative Yameen were on a scooty and had stopped at the gate of Okhla Mandi. “Fazlu asked Yameen to go to the shop. He had received a phone call and started talking as the son waited. Suddenly, two men wearing helmets arrived at the spot on a motorcycle. One of them shot Fazlu on the right side of the head,” the friend said, adding that the two men then fled the spot.

The victim was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead. The body was sent to AIIMS mortuary where a post-mortem was conducted after which it was handed over to the family for last rites on Saturday.

The police said that they have registered a case under Section 302 (punishment for murder) of the IPC and begun an investigation. “It is suspected that the motive behind the murder was personal enmity.
