Boy found hanging, family alleges foul play

A 10-year-old boy was found hanging from a ceiling fan at his residence in outer Delhi’s Mangolpuri on Friday morning. The police have not recovered any suicide note.

DCP (Outer) Seju P. Kuruvilla said the victim has been identified as Manish, a Class V student. His stepfather, a labourer, had gone to work in the morning, the police said. His mother, a house help, was also out for work at that time. Manish’s two sisters had gone to school, they added.

“He usually stayed alone in the morning because he used to attend school in the afternoon,” Mr. Kuruvilla said. The victim’s grandmother found him hanging and rushed him to the hospital where he was declared dead. While the family alleged foul play, the police said the preliminary post-mortem report states that he died of hanging. However, the police are enquiring about the case from all angles.
