The BJP on Tuesday announced social welfare programmes to be conducted in each of the city’s municipal wards on the occasion of its 42nd foundation day on April 6.

Delhi BJP president Adesh Gupta said the party will celebrate its foundation day starting Wednesday. A fortnight-long drive, which the party will observe as “Samajik Nyay Pakhwada” or “social justice fortnight”, will see special programmes from April 7 to 20.

“A shobha yatra (procession) will be taken out tomorrow (April 6) from Rajinder Nagar in which party national president J P Nadda will be present,” Mr. Gupta said.

“The youth wing will organize a blood donation camp at the party’s national office. Thereafter, there will be an address by the Prime Minister for which giant LED TV screens will be put up at all the booths across the city so that people can hear him,” he added.

From April 7 to 20, Mr. Gupta said, a run will be organised in which about 50,000 people will take part including prominent players, people from paramilitary forces, the Delhi police and retired army personnel. A Yamuna cleaning drive will be conducted from April 11 to 13, while on April 18, a felicitation ceremony will be held for sanitation workers.

“Under the Azaadi ka Mahotsav programme, we will meet the family members of the unsung heroes who gave their lives for the freedom of the country and felicitate them,” Mr. Gupta said.

“On the occasion of Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar’s birth anniversary on April 14, his statutes will be cleaned at every booth level and later floral tributes will be paid. At the same time, people in JJ clusters would be made aware of various welfare policies implemented for the SC community,” he added.
