BJP terms Kejriwal's bid to amend laws ‘bluff’

October 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated November 16, 2021 03:54 pm IST - NEW DELHI:

The BJP on Monday slammed Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal by calling the government’s attempt to amend laws pertaining to rape a ‘bluff’. The party suggested that the Delhi government instead focus on fulfilling its promises towards the cause.

Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay said, “Mr. Kejriwal on Monday announced formation of a group of ministers to suggest amendment to laws pertaining to rape and reducing juvenile age to 15 years. But, both are not in the Delhi government’s work ambit.” Mocking the Chief Minister’s call for a special Cabinet meet, he said the announcements made after the meeting only exposed the ‘hollowness’ of his political character.

“The special Cabinet Meeting is just a political deceit. The government at the Centre is already working on those and a decision on juvenile age is about to be made public. The Centre is also working on increasing the penalty on rapist and making court proceedings victim-friendly,” said Mr. Upadhyay.

Meanwhile, BJP MP Udit Raj and Mr. Upadhyay demanded that the Delhi government rebuild and provide proper homes to jhuggi dwellers of Mangolpuri, whose houses were burnt in an accident on early Monday morning.
