Launching a sharp attack on the Arvind Kejriwal government over its controversial circular threatening action against the media for any defamatory news, the Bharatiya Janata Party leaders on Sunday called the Delhi Chief Minister a “hypocrite”.
The Delhi unit of the party has decided to launch an agitation over the issue till the AAP government withdraws its circular.
Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay termed the circular “draconian and a veiled threat to the media to stop doing stories exposing misdeeds of the Arvind Kejriwal government”.
“The BJP has always maintained that Mr. Kejriwal and his circus is extremely double faced having no faith in democracy, constitutional institutions, freedom of speech and moral values. For Kejriwal and his coterie, these were just electoral points,” said Mr. Upadhyay, adding that Kejriwal was a ‘dictatorial anarchist’ and that following his 67-seat victory, his true colours are now for the people and the media to see.
New Delhi MP Meenakshi Lekhi accused Mr. Kejriwal of playing ‘shoot and scoot’ politics.
“As far as suing is concerned, anybody and everybody has the right to sue. But, filing false cases and incorrect cases is an offence. The people should take him to the cleaners for making defamatory statements about others, which he has done in the past. It’s ‘shoot and scoot’, because he would make a statement, run away and get the benefit,” Ms. Lekhi said.
