The BJP on Saturday questioned the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Delhi government’s decision to not implement the Clinical Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2016.
Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Legislative Assembly Vijender Gupta argued that the Act was necessary to stop “malpractices and the commercialisation of private and corporate hospitals” with an aim to provide “affordable and accessible healthcare services to all sections of the society”.
“The Clinical Establishments [Registration and Regulation] Act, 2016, has been implemented in 11 States and all the Union Territories except Delhi. The people of these States and Union Territories are already enjoying the benefits of the Act,” Mr. Gupta said.
“But the Delhi government is still following the 65-year-old Delhi Nursing Home Registration Act, 1953, which is toothless when it comes to dealing with present-day realities. The poor and middle class people of Delhi are suffering due to this negligence of the Delhi government,” he argued further.
The Haryana government “with whom Kejriwal competes” in relation to health services has also implemented the Clinical Establishments (Registration and Regulation) Act, 2016, he said.
Private and corporate hospitals, the BJP leader argued, had become business establishments where poor patients were “exploited financially” for healthcare.
“The Kejriwal government should not join lobbyists in the sector and implement this important Act immediately,” Mr. Gupta said.
