Nomination papers for the posts of Mayor, Deputy Mayor and Standing Committee members for the north, south and east Delhi municipal corporations have been filed on Thursday. While elections for the post of Mayor will be held later this month, the voting will be a formality as the BJP is in majority in all the three civic bodies.

In the 2017 elections to the municipal corporations, the party won 181 out of the 270 wards in the city.

In the South Delhi Municipal Corporation, the BJP, which is in majority, nominated Sunita Kangra for the post of Mayor and Raj Dutt Gehlot for the post of Deputy Mayor. In the North Delhi Municipal Corporation, the party has nominated Avtar Singh for the post of Mayor and Yogesh Verma for the post of Deputy Mayor. In the East Delhi Municipal Corporation, Anuj Kamal has been nominated for Mayor post and Sanjay Goel for the post of Deputy Mayor.

Elections will also be held for the posts of standing committee members falling vacant this year. Current mayors of the three corporations have filed their nominations to these posts. In SDMC, the current mayor Narendra Chawla along with other BJP members -- Bhupendra Gupta and B.K. Oberoi -- have filed their nominations. In the north civic body, two councillors of the BJP Adesh Kumar Gupta (current mayor) and Jai Prakash, Ravinder Bhardwaj of AAP and Congress councillor Prerna Singh have filed their nominations. In EDMC, nominations were filed by current mayor Bipin Bihari Singh and Ajay Sharma of the BJP and Abdul Rahman of AAP.
