BJP: AAP has broken its promise to Poorvanchalis

No permanent Chhath ghats built: Gupta

October 21, 2017 11:10 pm | Updated 11:10 pm IST - New Delhi

The Leader of the Opposition in the Delhi Assembly, Vijender Gupta, on Saturday accused the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government of cheating 50-60 lakh Poorvanchalis, settled in the Capital, by failing to fulfil its promise to create permanent Chhath Ghats.

Mr. Gupta said that the Arvind Kejriwal-led government had announced it would build 180 such ghats, “but not a single ghat has been constructed so far”.

Even work related to construction of temporary ghats has not started, he added. “Due to the neglect of the government, the people of Poorvanchal are now themselves making temporary arrangements at these ghats. They will not forgive the Kejriwal-led government for not fulfilling its promises,” Mr. Gupta said.

Taking stock of situation

The Rohini legislator visited the western Yamuna Canal on Saturday to take stock of preparations for Chhath Puja, which will be celebrated on October 26 this year.

Meanwhile, Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari announced that he would participate in a shramdaan (voluntary work) at the Yamuna Chhath Ghat on Sunday.
