Two bike-borne men allegedly snatched a purse from a woman outside her home in east Delhi’s Laxmi Nagar, the police said on Saturday.
The incident was reported on July 2 at 9.45 p.m. when Maya Yadav was outside her house. Two men on a bike came near her when one of them snatched a purse from her hand and sped off. The entire incident was captured on a CCTV camera installed in the area.
However, the police refused to lodge an FIR, the victim alleged.
After persuasion, the investigating officer registered the case under sections of theft and did not check the CCTV footage, the victim alleged.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Jasmeet Singh said he just got to know about the incident. He has ordered registration of an FIR under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code.
“We have ordered detail inquiry over the role of policemen into the matter. If found guilty, disciplinary action will be taken against them,” said Mr. Singh.
Ms. Yadav alleged that her family members made a PCR call at 10.05 p.m. An Investigating officer reached her house and recorded her statement but did not register FIR into the matter.
“On July 4, the IO gave me an e-FIR but that was of theft. I provided him with the CCTV footage. In e-FIR, the IO mentioned that my purse was missing from outside of my house. I demand strict action against the snatchers and the policemen,” added Ms. Yadav.
