A Delhi court on Monday extended the judicial remand of AAP MLA and former Delhi Law Minister Somnath Bharti till October 19, while the accused MLA moved another court for bail in the attempt-to-murder case lodged by his wife Lipika Mitra.

Mr. Bharti was on Sunday remanded in one-day judicial remand on completion of his six-day police remand.

The Delhi Police produced him before Metropolitan Magistrate Manika seeking extension of the remand. Additional Sessions Judge Anil Kumar will hear the bail application of Mr. Bharti on Tuesday.

During the hearing, Mr. Bharti alleged that he had not been provided food since morning when he was kept in the lock-up before he was produced in the court. He filed an application in this regard which the court will take up for hearing on October 19.

He also said that he wished to write a letter to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on the violation of rights. The court asked him to approach the jail authorities in this regard.

Mr. Bharti had last week surrendered at the Dwarka police station on a Supreme Court direction.

Earlier, the Delhi High Court had rejected Mr. Bharti’s plea for anticipatory bail. He had moved the High Court after rejection of his anticipatory bail plea and thereafter the issuance of NBW against him by two different district courts.

The Dwarka police had on September 10 registered a case against Mr. Bharti on Ms. Mitra’s complaint for attempt to murder, subjecting woman to cruelty, criminal intimidation, criminal breach of trust, cheating, and voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapon of the IPC. She had lodged the case after the reconciliation efforts failed.

During the hearing, Bharti said he wished
