A suspected member of terror outfit Babbar Khalsa International has been arrested by the Special Team of the Delhi Police. The unit claims to have seized arms and ammunition at his instance.
Accused Narender Singh (43), who belongs to Jalandhar in Punjab, was on his way to board a flight to Germany when he was intercepted at the Indira Gandhi International Airport on Monday. The police purportedly seized from him two compact discs containing provocative speeches.
During interrogation, the accused disclosed that he was based in Spain, but frequently met Hardevinder Singh, the BKI chief in Germany. He allegedly joined the outfit in 2000 and was tasked to contact the families of slain militants in Punjab and provide them with monetary support.
The accused went to Pakistan along with Hardevinder Singh in November last and met BKI chief Wadhawa Singh in Lahore. According to the police, he also underwent training in the handling of arms and explosives. “Wadhawa Singh discussed with him the plan to target Baba Gurmeet Ram Rahim Sirsa Wale, Baba Pyara Singh Panehare Wale and Baba Ashutosh in India,” said a police officer.
Narender came to India from Germany in the first week of February. He received a consignment of two pistols, four magazines and 50 rounds in Jalandhar in the second week of March and was asked to keep them at a safe place for future use. Based on his purposed disclosure, the police recovered the consignment.
