A new profiling exercise has been initiated by the Delhi Police to assess the suitability of the newly inducted women personnel for PCR duties. Senior police officers say the idea is to check the aptitude of these women for a role which would involve performing multifarious tasks while ensuring swift response.
The strengths and shortcomings would be observed and analysed during the ongoing orientation programme.
Ms. Roy said among other things, willingness to be a part of the PCR network was something they were looking at. In addition, computer proficiency and typing speed, ability to comprehend information, console control would be dealt with.
“We would also give them forms where they would be asked questions about how they would respond to a given situation and their responses would be studied and worked upon if there are corrective measures to be taken. The job of a call operator is particularly important as it comes with the added responsibility of comforting someone who is in a state of panic and needs help from the police,” said Ms. Roy adding that this exercise would be repeated with other PCR recruits in the future as well.
