A 68-year-old alleged gunrunner has been arrested at Moti Nagar in West Delhi. The police claim to have seized nine country-made firearms of different bores and several live cartridges from him.
Accused Harpal, a resident of Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh, has links with criminals operating in the Capital and U.P. According to the police, he has previously supplied arms and ammunition to several gangs in the city.
The police arrested Harpal at a bus shelter in Zakhira on Wednesday evening. During interrogation, he disclosed that he owns 24 bighas of agriculture land at his native place. About eight years ago, he lost one of his legs in an accident after which he allegedly started supplying firearms to criminals. “He sold firearms to one Rakesh Hasanpuria gang in U.P. After Rakesh's death, he came in contact with other criminals, including Shokat Pasa and Saleem Kana of Seelampur in Delhi,” said Additional Commissioner of Police (West Delhi) V. Renganathan, adding that the accused also supplied firearms to several other notorious criminals.
Harpal allegedly procured arms and ammunition from Ankit and Mohit, residents of Sambhal in U.P.
