Ahead of T20 match, SDMC ups measures

The South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has beefed up pollution control measures around Arun Jaitely Stadium in view of the T20 match between India and Bangladesh to be held here on Saturday, it said.

Special arrangements have been made to control air pollution, the civic body said. Multiple patrolling teams have been deployed on a rotational basis to ensure round-the-clock checks and quick action against violators for garbage or leaf burning.

SDMC had also deployed extra water tankers and sprinklers to check dust pollution, apart from stationing 10 mechanical sweepers. A special sanitation drive will also be carried out, the civic body said.

SDMC Commissioner Gyanesh Bharti also said that the staff was being closely monitored and that leniency would invite censure. Senior officials of the civic body will be carrying out inspections to check preparedness on Saturday. The SDMC had issued 255 challans for various polluting activities, totalling to ₹13.42 lakh, it said.
