In view of Independence Day celebrations, the BSES issued an advisory on Tuesday against flying kites near electrical installations.

The manja or thread used to fly kites in competitions is said to be a good conductor of electricity, and may lead to electrocution and disruption in supply of power in the area.

A BSES release stated that several cases of kite flying-related tripping are reported every year. It added, “If entangled manja happens to be metal coated, it can even lead to electrocution of the kite flyer.” The discom is said to have put its operations and maintenance teams on alert. It has also launched a campaign to spread awareness about related dangers.
