The Aam Aadmi Party protested outside Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta’s residence on Wednesday, alleging that BJP leaders vandalised Sonia Vihar underground reservoir (UGR) and polluted drinking water.
Delhi BJP spokesperson Harish Khurana termed the allegations as “lies”, adding that AAP leaders and workers are scared of being exposed by the BJP.
AAP leader Durgesh Pathak said, “The Delhi government developed the UGR to resolve the water issue in Sonia Vihar. Yesterday, the BJP leaders ransacked it and contaminated the water by mixing harmful substances in it. The BJP has turned so immensely hostile towards AAP that it has fallen as far as endangering the lives of thousands of people.”
Delhi Water Minister Satyendar Jain said BJP MP Manoj Tiwari, along with around 300 people, had forcibly entered the Delhi Jal Board’s Sonia Vihar UGR and created a ruckus there and urged the Delhi police to take action.
AAP demanded that Mr. Gupta should resign as it is due to his party members that the water supply in east Delhi has been cut off.
Meanwhile, Mr. Tiwari said he visited the UGR after receiving complaints of supply of dirty water.
“The State government is already supplying contaminated water to Delhiites through Delhi Jal Board and thus playing with the lives of Delhiites and spreading false news and misleading people,” Mr. Khurana said.
