AAP govt signs friendship agreement with Japan

To focus on issues like environment, culture, education

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government and Fukuoka Prefecture in Japan on Tuesday signed a friendship agreement for cooperation in various fields including environment, cultural exchange, education and air pollution.

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Governor of Fukuoka Hiroshi Ogawa represented the two governments.

Twin city deal

The agreement was signed in the presence of Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, Urban Development Minister Satyendar Jain, Transport Minister Kailash Gehlot, Environment Minister Imran Hussain, Speaker Ram Niwas Goel and other senior dignitaries.

“The twin city agreement signed proposes agreement between the two countries in the areas of environment, air pollution, culture, tourism and heritage, education and youth exchange,” Mr. Kejriwal said.

Three-year pact

The two cities signed this agreement for three years, with effect from April 2017, till 2020.

The Chief Minister said that the first agreement was signed between the two cities in March 2005 and was signed again in March 2012.

“We wish that as time passes, the ties between the two cities and our countries are strengthened,” said Mr. Ogawa.
