AAP govt betraying Delhiites: BJP

Delhi Metro Phase IV being delayed by Kejriwal, says Tiwari

The Delhi BJP on Tuesday accused the Delhi government of “betraying” the people of the city by “hindering” approval for Phase IV of the Delhi Metro.

Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari attacked Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for approving the project to garner “cheap publicity” and adding conditions that will “hinder its materialisation on the ground”.

“This time, the Delhi government has raised objection to the repayment of the loan from the Japanese Bank for this project. The Centre’s stand is that if the Delhi Metro defaults in the repayment, then both the Centre and the Delhi government will have to share the burden. But the Delhi government has not agreed to this proposal,” Mr. Tiwari said.

The Centre had said that it had forwarded the project for appraisal but the Delhi government’s “conditions are creating a hindrance”, which makes Mr. Kejriwal’s “intentions and motives”, in relation to serving the people, suspect, said Mr. Tiwari.

“It is not clear whether he [Mr. Kejriwal] wants to work in the interest of the people or he wants to mislead them... Firstly, he announces the approval of Delhi Metro Phase IV for cheap popularity and after that he adds such conditions that the people of rural areas of Delhi may not get the benefit of extended metro service,” the North-East Delhi MP said.
