Two days after farmer Gajendra Singh committed suicide at an Aam Aadmi Party rally, the Delhi government has decided to offer a job to his kin, give him martyr status and also launch a farmer compensation scheme in the Capital named after him.

The decision, said senior AAP functionaries, was taken after party leader Sanjay Singh met Gajendra’s family members at their Nangal Jhamarwada village in Rajasthan’s Dausa district.

The Aam Aadmi Party has already handed over a cheque for Rs. 10 lakh as compensation to the family.

Senior party functionaries said a delegation of AAP MLAs Rajesh Rishi, Naresh Balyan and Rajesh Gupta along with Sanjay Singh met Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday morning and communicated the family’s demands. Mr. Kejriwal then spoke to Gajendra’s brother and accepted the demands.

“The Chief Minister has promised to provide a job to one child of the family after he or she attains the age of 18. The government has also announced to name a rain-hit farmer compensation scheme after Gajendra. Farmers will start getting compensation from next week,” a senior official said.
