Hundreds of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) volunteers protested outside the residence of External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj here on Saturday morning, demanding her resignation over the Lalit Modi controversy.
Over 300 supporters, including Bhavna Gaur, AAP MLA from Palam, raised slogans outside the Minister’s residence in Lutyens Bungalow Zone in Central Delhi.
The protestors also demanded resignation of Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhra Raje.
Ms. Swaraj, however, was not present at her residence at the time of the protest as she has left for New York to attend the International Yoga Day celebrations at the United Nations. “The controversy has exposed the true face of the BJP and the Narendra Modi-led government. It is a regime which is corrupt because of black marketers and profiteers,” said Ankush Narang, AAP’s youth wing president.
Agitation to continue
The party would continue to protest inside and outside Parliament during the monsoon session, if the demand for resignation of these two Ministers was not met.
“The Modi government says Na Khaenge, Na Khane Denge . In such a case, it is the moral responsibility of the BJP and the government to sack Ms. Swaraj and Ms. Raje, who helped Mr. Lalit Modi,” said Vikas Yogi, AAP’s youth wing leader.
The police didn’t detain anyone, but the protestors were taken in buses and dropped at the Race Course metro station.
