Aam Aadmi Party candidate from Wazirpur Assembly constituency, Rajesh Gupta, and his supporters have been booked for allegedly attacking a party volunteer and inflicting grievous injuries on him.
Mr. Gupta was fielded for the Assembly elections as a replacement for Suresh Bharadwaj who was dropped after the party received complaints against him.
In his complaint submitted at the Ashok Vihar Police Station, the victim, Archit Gupta, said the attack was on the issue of an internal voting in which Rajesh Gupta wanted his support.
“On Wednesday, around 8-30 p.m., an AAP meeting was held in the Wazirpur Industrial area. In the presence of several volunteers, who were attending the meeting, Mr. Gupta and his supporters approached me and told me that I could stay there if I supported him or else I should leave the meeting,” said the complainant.
According to Archit, Mr. Gupta and his supporters then had a scuffle with him, which led to injuries on his hand and face, besides a broken tooth.
Archit’s medical examination confirmed that the injuries were grievous in nature and a case under Section 325 (punishment for voluntarily causing grievous hurt) and Section 34 (common intention) of the Indian Penal Code was registered.
In its response to the questions on the issue, the Aam Aadmi Party said they were looking into the matter and if need be, they will take corrective measures on the issue.
