: The murder of a 42-year-old Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) bus driver here triggered a confrontation between the Aam Aadmi Party-led (AAP) Delhi Government and the Opposition on Monday.
While the former blamed the BJP for inconveniencing thousands of commuters by instigating DTC workers to sit on strike as a reaction to the incident, the latter slammed the AAP for “running away” from its responsibility.
Terming the strike by DTC employees illegal, the Government said it would deal with it sternly as “it was called without giving prior notice, and appeals by the government for talks were not heeded.”
“Employees are advised to return to work immediately in their own interest, failing which they will have to face serious repercussions, since the government will not tolerate any further public inconvenience and indiscipline in the National Capital,” the Government said in a statement.
Refuting AAP’s allegation that the BJP was behind the DTC strike, the chief of its Delhi unit Satish Upadhyay said, “AAP’s allegation was not a new thing. I can also allege that some people are saying that those who were involved in the incident were connected to AAP and Gopal Rai went there to save the accused.”
A delegation of Delhi BJP leaders will meet the family of deceased DTC bus driver and provide a relief of Rs 5 lakh, he said.
Meanwhile, the Government said it would bear the cost of entire education of the victim’s daughter and the ongoing treatment of his wife who is in hospital. This decision had been communicated to his family with whom the transport department established contact again on Monday.
