The party's already appointed Lok Sabha in-charges were named as the candidates for their respective seats.

The Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday announced candidates for six of the seven Lok Sabha constituencies in Delhi, a day after Delhi Congress president Sheila Dikshit ruled out an alliance.

However, senior leaders in both parties said the option of a tie-up was still on the table.

A Congress leader said an alliance could be struck “at any time to defeat the BJP.”

Leaders of the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee, however, said they had reiterated their unwillingness for an alliance with the AAP.

A senior AAP leader said the party’s attempts to reach out to the Congress had not yielded any result.

But the leader added that the AAP “may consider” an alliance if the Congress approached it.

At a press conference here, AAP Delhi convener Gopal Rai said the leadership of the ‘mahagathbandan,’ the coming-together of the anti-BJP parties, had thought there should be an alliance between the AAP and the Congress to prevent division of votes. But Congress president Rahul Gandhi had said last month that the party would not align with the AAP, Mr. Rai said.

“We thought they would rethink. But, yesterday [on Friday], after Ms. Dikshit said they did not want an alliance, we decided there was very little time left for the election. So we are announcing our candidates,” he said.
