The UIDAI on Thursday told the Delhi High Court that media reports of Aadhaar data breach were “misleading”, adding that it was “impossible” to crack its encryption technology.

The UIDAI, which collects a person’s photograph, fingerprints and iris scans before he or she is issued a 12-digit unique identification number, has consistently denied several reports of alleged leakage of Aadhaar data.

In an affidavit, UIDAI Deputy Director Ramesh Kumar said, “There are multiple layers of security at physical level in the UIDAI data centres and is being managed by armed CISF personnel round the clock”.

The UIDAI’s response came on a petition of Kerala-based lawyer Shamnad Basheer alleging there were several breaches of the Aadhaar system leading to leakage of personal information of individuals. The UIDAI refuted his allegation.
