Water supply to be restored today: DJB

January 17, 2017 01:30 am | Updated 01:30 am IST - NEW DELHI:

Water supply to large parts of north, north-west, central and south Delhi will be restored by Tuesday, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) said on Monday. The areas had suffered water shortage over the weekend.

Due to an increase in the pollution of the water in the Yamuna, the DJB was forced to curtail production at its treatment plants at Wazirabad, Chandrawal and Okhla last week. This was due to a leak in the carrier-lined channel (CLC) that brings water from Haryana. While the CLC was being repaired, Delhi was picking up water from the main course of the river, where ammonia levels were too high to be treated.

The level of ammonia had reached 3.8 parts per million (ppm), while the permissible limit is 0.2ppm.

‘Plants working normally’

As of Monday evening, DJB chairperson Kapil Mishra said that production was back to normal, with the treatment plants operating at capacity. Mr. Mishra added that water supply to homes would be restored to normal by Tuesday morning.
