A young Rwandan national was allegedly gang-raped by four persons at Timarpur in North Delhi on December 3. The police have arrested the accused.
According to the police, the victim had gone to buy some vegetables when she was picked up by two accused in their vehicle. They took her to a place close to the banks of river Yamuna where two of their friends joined them. “The accused raped the woman inside and outside the vehicle and dropped her close to her residence,” said a police officer.
The 26-year-old victim lodged a complaint with the area police, but no action was initiated against the accused then. After the matter was brought to the notice of a senior police officer, a departmental enquiry was initiated against an inspector and the case registered.
Subsequently the police arrested Deepak, Ashok, Vikas and Parveen at the instance of the victim, who has applied for a refugee status in India through an NGO.
