With the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway concessionaire Millennium City Expressway Private Limited (MCEPL) exploring the possibility of reviving tolling at the Delhi-Gurugram border, the Toll Hatao Sangharsh Samiti has vowed to oppose any such proposal.
Attempt to make money?
“We will oppose any move to set up a toll plaza at the Delhi-Gurugram border again. If this is allowed, we will go to the court and judiciary. When it has been decided in court that the toll would be removed, then who came up with the idea of setting it up again? It is an attempt to make money as the volume of traffic at Kherki Dhaula toll plaza is less,” said Samiti chairman R.S. Rathee, adding that the Samiti members would soon call on National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) chairman Yudhvir Singh Malik.
MCEPL CEO S. Raghuraman said the company was exploring the possibility of tolling at the Delhi-Gurugram border as the Haryana government wanted the Kherki Dhaula toll plaza to be shifted to help industry.
NHAI to benefit too?
“If it happens, it is good for the Haryana government as well as the NHAI. More than three lakh vehicles use the expressway everyday, but all of them do not pay us. We are maintaining the entire stretch by cleaning, road marking, lighting and route operations,” he said.
