Praveen K Tripathi is new Delhi Chief Secretary

Praveen K Tripathi, a 1977- batch IAS officer and Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit’s principal secretary since 2006, was today appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Delhi.

58-year-old Mr. Tripathi, who belongs to the UT cadre, succeeds Mr. Rakesh Mehta who was appointed as state election commissioner on Thursday.

Top sources in Delhi Government said Mr. Tripathi will take charge on Monday.

Mr. Tripathy also served the Delhi Jal Board as CEO, besides being the Commissioner of Sales Tax in Delhi Government.

Prior to his appointment as principal secretary to Ms. Dikshit, he had served Information and Broadcasting Ministry as Joint Secretary.

Mr. Tripathi is currently holding additional charge of Finance Secretary.

A bureaucratic reshuffle involving several other top officials of Delhi Government is also on the cards in the next few days, the sources said.

The appointment of Mr. Mehta, a 1975-batch IAS officer of UT cadre, as the state Election Commissioner came just a year before the elections to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi.
