Saturday saw the highest turn-out of visitors so far at the ongoing India International Trade Fair-2009 at Pragati Maidan here.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police V. A. Gupta, there were one lakh people inside the exhibition ground at any given time on Saturday. “We have arrived at this figure by physically counting visitors. Our men posted at the gates not just search trade fair enthusiasts but also keep track of their numbers. Today an overwhelming number of visitors were youngsters,” he said.

Corroborating his statistics, India Trade Promotion Organisation senior general manager Safdar Khan, in charge of security, said with Saturday being a day off for many, a large number of people visited various halls at the sprawling exhibition ground. “Our estimate is that there were one lakh people at IITF.”

But despite the large number of visitors, there was no untoward incident. The Delhi police made one preventive arrest under Sections 107 and 151 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
