The State-Level Steering Committee on Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM) on Friday cleared five housing infrastructure projects worth Rs.1,136 crore. Apart from this, the panel also approved purchase of 228 mini-feeder buses for the Delhi Metro.
The decision on the funding was taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit in which the projects being undertaken were reviewed and new one discussed. The Chief Minister exhorted the construction agencies to ensure quality of material and construction in the execution of the projects.
In case of the housing projects, Ms. Dikshit directed that a plan of action indicating schedule of allotment of already constructed dwelling units to eligible applicants also be finalised. The meeting was attended by all Ministers, the Mayor of South Delhi MCD, MLAs in capacity of their being member on the Committee, the Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary Urban Development and all senior officers concerned.
The Committee gave its nod to four pilot projects under the Rajiv Awas Yojna for construction of dormitories, which would be given on rental basis to firms and contractors for industrial workers engaged in construction projects, as also to migrant workers, seasonal workers and non-eligible slum dwellers who cannot afford shelter at open market rates.
Under these projects, 7,672 rooms offering 10-bedded dormitory and five-bedded dormitory would be constructed by the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation at an estimated cost of Rs.906.30 crore. Under two projects, 3052 rooms will be constructed at Kanjhawala and under the remaining two 4,620 rooms will be constructed at Samaspur. The Committee also approved another project for construction of 3,600 dwelling units at Kanjhawala. This construction would be undertaken by the DSIIDC at an estimated cost of Rs. 229.83 crore.
The Committee also gave its ex-post facto approval to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation for purchase of 228 non-air conditioned mini-feeder buses. Earlier, approval had been given for purchase of AC mini-feeder buses.
