No bail for man accused of raping US national

January 05, 2017 12:41 am | Updated 12:41 am IST - New Delhi:

A Delhi court on Wednesday dismissed the bail application of one of the four men arrested for allegedly raping a US tourist in a five-star hotel here last year.

‘Case not fit for bail’

Additional Sessions Judge Raj Kapoor denied relief to accused Vivek Srivastava, who was working in the hotel at the time of the incident. The court rejected the plea, moved by advocate Sandeep Kapur, saying the allegations levelled by the US national were grave and that his case was not fit for bail.

Srivastava, along with three other accused Aniruddha Singh, Omprakash and Maqsood, is at present lodged in judicial custody.

The police had on December 26 arrested all four persons in connection with the case.

DCW notice

The US national returned to India in December to join the probe. She recorded her statement before a judicial magistrate, where she reiterated that she was gang-raped in the five-star hotel.

The four accused were arrested after the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) issued a notice to the police asking them why the Rape Crisis Cell of the panel was not informed when the victim’s statement was recorded.

She also told the police that the accused claimed to have sexually assaulted other female tourists as well. — PTI
