The British Council has announced the appointment of Rob Lynes as director of the British Council in India.
Commenting on his new responsibility, Mr. Lynes said: “We live in an ever-changing world where the centre of gravity is moving to India and China. I am keen to explore what a successful cultural relationship between India and the United Kingdom will be like in the 21st century. We will continue to bring the people together to strengthen that relationship, and to meet the demands of India's aspirations. India's young emerging generation has ambitious expectations not just for education and qualifications but also for creative partnerships which we need to build on.”
Previously Mr. Lynes held the office of deputy director (operations), based at the British Council's headquarters in London.
A trained linguist, Mr. Lynes has studied Russian, Polish and Hungarian, and spent a number of years in Eastern Europe.
