Supermarkets across the city replaced Maggi noodles and its variants with other brands of instant noodles after the Delhi government banned the product manufactured by Nestle India.
By Wednesday afternoon, Maggi noodles were not available for sale in most large retail chains with the available packets being returned to central warehouses.
Smaller grocery stores that still had the noodles on sale said the unsold stock would be returned to distributors.
Rajinder Goyal, who owns a grocery store, said that for the last few days people had been trying other brands of instant noodles. He added that the demand for instant noodles had not been hit as people were opting for substitutes.
Raghav Mehrotra, a customer, said people have been eating Maggi Noodles for a long time.
According to him, there are reports about other products being unhealthy too, but people still consume them.
Children form a major part of the clientele for Maggi noodles, commercials for which are telecast regularly on channels that air shows for them.
Twelve-year old Sanjay said that when his mother allowed him to cook a few months ago, it was Maggi that he turned to.
Though he said he liked the taste and preferred Maggi to other brands, he was quick to add that his mother had told him not to eat it till the ban is lifted.
Meanwhile, at a chai stall near ITO people continued to enjoy Maggi noodles in the evening.
