The Outreach Programme of Jamia Millia Islamia in association with Safdar Hashmi Memorial Trust (SAHMAT) will offer a tribute to world renowned artist M. F. Husain on his ninety-fourth birthday by organising a special event on the campus this Thursday.

The event – “For Husain at 94” – will be held at the M.F. Husain Gallery on the campus and will comprise an exhibition, screening of his films and a book release function.

An exhibition of over 100 artworks that have been created as a “gift” for Husain by several eminent and emerging artists and students will open on Thursday at 11 a.m.

This will be followed by screening of his films, including the Madhuri Dixit-starrer Gaja Gamini, Meenaxi: A Tale of Three Cities with Tabu in the main lead, and Through the Eyes of a Painter.

Also, Jamia Vice-Chancellor Najeeb Jung will release a book “Husain at 94” authored by filmmaker and critic K. Bikram Singh, who will later deliver a lecture on the same.

The evening will end with an “Iftar” outside the gallery.

“This exhibition and book is both a tribute and a celebration of the work and life of Husain from artists and a reminder to Husain that in spite of attempts to denigrate his art and his forced exile, the creative community holds him in the highest regard,” said Rakhshanda Jalil, director of media and culture at Jamia.

Apart from some top names in the art world, the exhibition will also include the works of students from Delhi College of Art and the Art Department at Jamia.

The exhibition will remain open till September 24 between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.
