The Delhi High Court on Monday reserved its verdict on a petition for a direction to the Centre for granting of permanent commission to serving women officers like their male counterparts in the armed forces.
A Division Bench of Justice Sanjay Kishan Kaul and Justice Mool Chand Garg reserved the final order after hearing arguments from the counsel of the Centre as well as the women officers who sought the direction.
Today, the Centre’s counsel expressed the government’s inability to grant permanent commission to serving women officers in the armed forces.
The counsel said government’s new policy for granting permanent commission for women officers, who were to be recruited in future, was still under its consideration.
Whether the policy would be implemented or not from this year was still not clear, he added.
Also rejecting the plea for pension in case government was not willing to grant permanent commission to the women officers, the counsel said short service commissioned officers after serving the nation for 14 long years were given an option to join a business course at top schools like Indian Institutes of Management.
However, the Bench suggested the Centre consider at least the plea of those officers who have approached the High Court.
