: The Delhi Police recently busted a two-member gang that was allegedly printing fake ₹2,000 and ₹500 notes.
The accused — 25-year-olds Krishan and Ashish— were allegedly running the racket from a one-room set in Uttam Nagar. The police said the equipment used to print the notes was not state-of-the-art and the production cost of one ₹2,000 note was not more than ₹20.
Large-scale racket
In all, they had allegedly printed fake notes to the tune of ₹6,10,500.
They were nabbed on Monday, when the police learnt that they would be going to Bindapur.
“We had received information that some individuals had managed to replicate the ₹2000 and ₹500 notes, and were giving out the money at a 50 per cent discount,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South-West) Surender Kumar.
Three policemen, posing as customers, met the accused at Bindapur, and struck a deal with them to exchange ₹4,000 for ₹2,000.
“The minute the exchange took place, we apprehended the duo,” said Mr. Kumar.
