Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal on Saturday ordered the setting up of a separate company under the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to manage the city’s biodiversity parks in a focused and sustained manner.
“Mr. Baijal, who visited the Yamuna Biodiversity Park, directed that a separate corporate entity must be set up to manage biodiversity parks for preservation of flora and fauna in Delhi,” said a statement from the L-G office, adding that Mr. Baijal pointed to the “urgent need” to revive lost ecosystems of Yamuna river.
‘Natural heritage’
The L-G also visited Phase-II of the Yamuna Biodiversity Park. While walking through the connecting corridor, Mr. Baijal talked about the unique urban landscape and acknowledged its contribution to Delhi’s natural heritage.
Mr. Baijal was associated with conceiving Biodiversity parks in the Capital, while serving as vice chairman of the DDA.
The L-G was accompanied by Delhi Development Authority vice chairman Udai Pratap Singh, environmentalist Prof. C. R. Babu, and scientist incharge of Yamuna Biodiversity Park Dr. Faiyaz A Khudsar.
