After Mumbai, it is Delhi's turn. The city's ‘cool' ones would be glad to know that the first ice lounge, set to minus six degree Celsius, has just opened at the MGF Metropolitan Mall, Saket.
Set on bamboo floors, filled with jute curtains and teak wood furniture including an ice sculpted Maharaja Throne chair and a giant sofa bed, the lounge is all set to give guests a glacial experience. It can reportedly freeze the ink of a pen in a matter of minutes, must say ideal for the harsh Delhi summer.
The lounge walls are made of ice, in fact everything possible that can be made of ice has been turned into ice in this 1100 square feet area. Among other things, it has an ice jungle complete with a family of tiger, a woman folding her hands into a namaste, a bar made of ice with a nine feet peacock sculpture at the backdrop and a replica of the Taj Mahal, all curved out of ice.
Mirage Entertainment has come up with the idea along with well known architect Julian Bayley, the founder of Iceculture, an international entity that creates ice hockey rinks, outdoor skating paths, etc.
“It gives me immense pleasure to announce the first ice lounge in Delhi. Ice Lounge is a very popular concept in various parts of the world. Ice Lounge across the globe has been designed by Bayley including ours. Keeping in mind our culture, we have given the interiors the ethnic Moghul look. Our endeavour is to provide an exquisite experience to the guests,” saidPuneet Tayal, the lounge's co-owner.
For the guests to experience sub zero temperature, there are specially designed jackets, gloves and boots available at the lounge. The bar has special LED lights with almost nil heat emission packed with colourful neon effects. “We have used imported crystal clear ice from Canada. No food is allowed in the ice section because of heat emissions,” says Puneet.
There is a separate area for dining with a menu that has some interesting Lebanese, Continental and Oriental platters. It also has a range of 50 vodka-laced cocktails.
