Each year, January 26 is celebrated to commemorate Purna Swaraj declaration of Independence and the day when the Constitution of India came into force in 1950.It replaced the Government of India Act 1935 as the country's fundamental governing document. Laying down fundamental laws for its citizens and ensuring them justice, equality and liberty, the constitution is the supreme law of the land and governs all states and union territories. Under the chairmanship of Dr Bhimrao Ramji Ambedkar, Father of the Constitution, a drafting committee gave shape to the document, which defines the rights and duties of every citizen of the country.
