The new industrial policy of the Delhi Government, which was approved on Monday, seeks to make the national capital a global hub for clean, high technology industries and services sector.
The Delhi Cabinet presided over by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit approved the new industrial policy framed for the first time after 1982.
“The new policy will encourage non-polluting industries and services sector,” Ms. Dikshit said.
Officials said the new policy aims to make the city a “hub for clean, high technology industries encouraging eco-friendly knowledge-based industries and generate high amount of revenue.”
They said it would encourage IT and IT enabled services which will not only boost revenues of the Capital but also deter polluting industries.
Ms. Dikshit said a centre of excellence to check quality of the infrastructures like flyovers, streets will also be set up soon.
The policy makes it clear that even the existing industries of the city need to be upgraded to make them environment friendly.
The objectives of the policy are to promote non-polluting and clean industries, promote high technology industries, develop world class industrial infrastructure and facilitate business through e-governance.
To encourage the clean industries to set up shop in Delhi and to promote the city as a major industrial hub, the policy points out to the excellent infrastructure here, including road connectivity, metro and educational infrastructure.
The policy also advocates promoting high-technology and skilled industries in new industrial areas through the PPP mode.
In a bid to remove multiplicity of agencies, the policy stipulates that DSIIDC (Delhi State Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation) would own and manage all the existing and new industrial assets of the city.
The vision of the policy is to make Delhi a hub of clean, high-technology and skilled economic activities by 2021.
