A three-and-a-half-year-old girl from India was rescued from here following the arrest of two Nepalese women who had kidnapped her from New Delhi, the police said on Saturday.

The police arrested Surakshya Shrestha (26) of Dolakha near the capital and Babita Paswan (18) of Itahari in eastern Nepal for abducting Baibhavi Chaturvedi from Delhi for ransom, Superintendent of Police Ramesh Kharel, chief of the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Circle, said.

The family members of the girl are expected to arrive in Kathmandu on Saturday, Mr. Kharel told PTI.

$1.5 lakh ransom

They had demanded $1.5 lakh from the family members of the girl, who had been kidnapped to Kathmandu on June 6 via the Jogbani border in India, the police chief said.

Shrestha is a housemaid in Delhi. The two women were arrested after a raid from the Subidha Guest House in Kathmandu's Sundhara area on Friday, the police said. They are in police custody.
