Decongest city roads, L-G tells traffic police

Directing the Delhi Traffic Police and other stakeholders to de-congest the Capital’s roads, Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal, at a high level review meeting on Thursday, ordered that a special task force be set up for intelligent traffic management system. He also emphasised on the need for a new uniform parking policy.

The L-G also directed the concerned agencies to remove unauthorised parking and encroachments under flyovers and u-turns. Mr. Baijal also called for strict action regarding speeding and use of mobile while driving, saying that no offenders should be spared.

The high level meeting to review traffic management issues in Delhi was attended by senior officers of the Traffic Police, Transport Department, the DDA, the NDMC, the three civic bodies, the PWD and UTTIPEC

“The L-G directed the Traffic Police to identify congestion points and take measure to remove them,” said a statement issued by Raj Niwas. Mr. Baijal also asked the agencies to prepare a ‘Uniform Parking Policy’ for the city.

The L-G addded that red light violation detection cameras and automatic number plate readers should be installed at identified locations at the earliest. He added that traffic engineering measures should be taken up in consultation with concerned authorities for road safety and ease of traffic.
