Cop loses leg after being hit by truck

: A 56-year-old Delhi Police head constable lost his leg after being hit by a container truck in south Delhi’s Tughlakabad on Friday.

The victim, Shishram, was going to a tea stall across the Mehrauli-Badarpur Road when the accident happened. The police said he was on picket duty in the area.

Hit by speeding vehicle

As he was crossing the road, an allegedly rashly-driven container truck hit the policeman from behind. He fell down, and his left leg came under the vehicle’s wheels.

“His leg was severed on the spot. The weight of the truck was such that the outcome was inevitable,” said a senior police officer.

Even as the truck driver stopped his vehicle and fled, the policeman’s cries drew the attention of his colleagues, who rushed to his aid.

The victim was taken to AIIMS, but doctors could not save his leg.

He is currently admitted at the intensive care unit of the hospital.

“We are thinking about the option of a prosthetic leg for Shishram,” said the officer.

Driver nabbed

The truck driver, Rahisuddin, was later nabbed and booked for rash driving and causing grievous injury.

A native of Alwar district in Rajasthan, Shishram who was posted at the Govindpuri police station for since over a year now.
