Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit on Saturday announced that eight baarat ghars and three community centres in the New Delhi Assembly constituency would be upgraded with modern facilities.

Inaugurating an upgraded community centre constructed by the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) at Golf Links, the Chief Minister said the new facility would serve as an important place for social gatherings and community programmes.

NDMC Chairman Parimal Rai, Vice-Chairperson Tajdar Babar and senior officers along with representatives of residents’ welfare associations were among those present on the occasion.

“The community hall will have all the facilities for organising social functions by the local residents. With an acute shortage of space for such activities, this community hall will cater to the needs of residents of the surrounding areas,’’ noted Ms. Dikshit.

She said this community centre was constructed in 1970 with a single-storey structure. It has now been upgraded with an additional floor, multipurpose halls, gymnasium, library and caretaker’s room. The complex is now centrally air-conditioned. Both floors have been connected with an inside lift and stairs. Renovation had been carried out at a cost of Rs.2.25 crore.
