Delhi Languages Minister Kiran Walia on Thursday recalled the contribution of Hindi in winning freedom for the country by being the language of the freedom fighters, litterateurs and revolutionaries as also the mode of communication among ordinary citizens.
Speaking during the Annual Hindi Prize distribution function at Delhi Secretariat, Prof. Walia said it was through Hindi that the revolutionaries were able to spread among the masses the feeling of patriotism for the country and of rebellion against the British which they nurtured in their hearts.
Prof. Walia presented certificates, medals, dictionaries, help books and cash awards of Rs.2,100, Rs.1,500, Rs.1,100 and Rs.400 to various officers and personnel who had emerged winners in various schemes and competitions pertaining to propagation of Hindi in their official work.
The officers who were awarded included ACP Kewal Singh; Inspector Satbir Singh; Assistant Accounts Officer in Development Department Harbans Lal Maggo and Ajay Kumar Rai; Subhash Chandra of LNJP Hospital; Assistant Information Officer in Directorate of Information and Broadcasting Urmil Beniwal; Publication Assistant Gobind Ram Kundaliya; Lower Division Clerks Devvrat Jha, Anita Ghai, Sanjiv Kumar and Anil Kumar Mehta; District Officer of Social Welfare Dept. Saroj Rawat; Under Secretary of Legislative Assembly S.K. Sikdar; and Lower Division Clerks Dharmendra Singh and Vikram Kumar.
