In the run-up to the BRICS (Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa) Summit scheduled in October, the “BRICS Film Festival,” an initiative by the Union Ministry of Broadcasting, will be held at the Siri Fort Auditorium here from September 2 to September 6.
Four films from each BRICS nation, nominated by the country itself, will be showcased at the festival, being organised by the Directorate of Film Festivals (DFF). The event will also double up as a competition.
Not just politics
DFF director C. Senthil Rajan told The Hindu : “The Prime Minister was very keen that the BRICS Summit this time should not only be about political relations, but also interaction between the common people. So we planned a film festival to showcase the cultures of various countries through their films.”
Documentaries also a part
Besides feature films, documentaries and films made by students will also be showcased.
DFF is also planning to invite film-makers and actors from the participating nations.
“This film festival is not just about entertainment. It will be a platform for various film-makers and artistes to meet and discuss mutual film production ventures,” said Mr. Rajan.
Senior Ministers to attend
The opening ceremony of the festival will be attended by senior Ministers from all five nations, eminent film personalities and the jury members.
The festival will open with an Indian film and close with a Chinese film as China will host the next film festival, the official added.
Besides films, a food fair with cuisines from all the member nations will also be put up at the festival venue. Cultural troupes from all five nations will also perform during the film festival.
