Patiala House court attack Delhi

Accused garlanded, uproar on social media

Photographs of Vikram Singh Chauhan, the lawyer who led the assault on journalists and JNU student leader >Kanhaiya Kumar on Monday and Wednesday, with a group of lawyers at the Karkardooma Court created a buzz on Thursday.

The social media claimed that Mr. Chauhan, who was sporting a garland in the photos, was felicitated for beating up “anti-national elements” at the >Patiala House Courts during the hearing on sedition charges slapped on the JNUSU president. The Bar Association of the Karkardooma Court, however, denied organising any such felicitation. Mahesh Sharma, the president of the Bar Association, rejected media reports about Mr. Chauhan being felicitated while talking to news agency PTI.

Lawyers associated with the Bar Association of the Karkardooma Court, meanwhile, took out a candle light march against a section of the media for labelling them “goonda” while reporting the violent incidents on the Patiala House Courts premises.

Mr. Chauhan, who was seen in some video clips bashing up journalists and the student leader on two consecutive occasions, also participated in the march before posting the said pictures with the caption “Mere sher bhai, muh tod jawab dete rahenge” (My brothers, you are all lions, we will keep giving them fitting replies) on Facebook. In a subsequent post, Mr. Chauhan, whose Facebook page has a number of photos of him alongside some bigwigs of the BJP, urged his “lawyer brothers” to gather once again outside the Patiala House Courts on Friday but this time for a “peaceful march”.
