AAP Ministers told to present ‘report card’

February 09, 2017 01:17 am | Updated 01:17 am IST - New Delhi:

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Ministers have been asked to prepare a ‘report card’ of their achievements and present it before the Capital in the run-up to its second anniversary later this month.

Daily presentations by each Minister, taking his department’s accomplishments to the people, are scheduled to culminate in a gala event being organised on February 14. However, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal will not be able to part in the celebrations as he is undergoing treatment.

Gopal Rai to take lead

Scheduled to begin on Friday with Gopal Rai, who holds the Labour and Agriculture portfolios, the other Ministers will follow suit till February 14 when Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia presides over a function to mark the occasion.

Among the highlights of these report cards, which sources said were being finalised, would include the AAP government’s success at keeping power tariffs at par with previous years, extension of water and power subsidies to citizens, and the laying down of 200 water lines in areas without water supply before February 14, 2015.

Also, the creation of mohalla clinics, refurbishment of government-run schools, allotment of housing to the poor, inauguration of community toilets and flyovers, the opening of kitchens providing subsidised meals to the poor and other aspects of infrastructural improvement, besides attempts at combating air pollution would be part of the agenda.

‘Unofficial manifesto’

According to a party source, the aim is not only to underline the AAP’s adherence to “transparent governance”, but also present an “unofficial manifesto” keeping the upcoming civic polls in mind.

The source also said that several “grass roots-level” and localised achievements may be added and publicised to appeal to voters in municipal wards.
