A 92-year-old man and his daughter-in-law were found murdered here on Sunday evening. The victims have been identified as Sewa Ram Katariya and Shashi Katariya (64), residents of East Patel Nagar.
According to the police, the bodies with fatal stab wounds were found around 6-30 p.m.
“Sudhir, Sewa Ram’s son and Shashi’s husband, is a businessman and had left his house around 2 p.m. He found them murdered when he returned home,” said a police officer.
Sudhir panicked when he found the main door to his house locked. He got duplicate keys from his sister who stays nearby. The police said as per initial leads robbery has been ruled out as motive for the double murder.
“Not only was the entry friendly – no evidence of forced access to the house – there were also no signs of ransacking. The assailants left the jewellery on Shashi’s body untouched,” the officer said.
The murder seemed to have been in retaliation to a business deal gone sour or at the behest of family members over property dispute, the officer added. A case of murder has been registered at the Patel Nagar police station.
The bodies have been shifted to hospital for post-mortem.
