Seven persons sustained injuries when their house caught fire allegedly due to a gas leak in west Delhi’s Khayala on Sunday evening, the police said on Monday.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Monika Bhardwaj said that the injured have been identified as Umesh Ram (45), Jairam (30), Shri Bhagwan (30), Mahesh (25), Dharmender (30), Babbu Sahai (30), and Mangal (15). All hail from Bihar and work as labourers in the Capital.

The police control room received a call around 8:30 p.m. regarding a gas cylinder blast. “When the police reached the spot they found that the fire broke out due to a gas leak and there was no blast in the cylinder. The injured were rushed to Guru Gobind Singh Government Hospital from where they were referred to Ram Manohar Lohia,” Ms. Bhardwaj said. The police said that the injured have refused to give statements despite repeated requests.

A case was registered under IPC Sections 285 (negligent conduct with respect to fire) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life). “A Crime Team inspected the spot and seized the cylinder and the burner among other articles,” the DCP said.
